Prophy API introduction

This guide is for developers who connect a manuscript or grant management system to Prophy: your own system, or a system you run for several client organizations.

On ScholarOne Manuscripts, Editorial Manager or eJournalPress? You don't need the API: the integration is ready. See ScholarOne Manuscripts, Editorial Manager and eJournalPress.

Why integrate with Prophy

Without an integration, using Prophy alongside your manuscript management system takes a lot of manual work:

  • An administrator has to set up each journal in Prophy, invite the editors and give them access.
  • Editors have to register in Prophy separately and remember one more login and password.
  • Editors have to copy each manuscript from your system to Prophy, and then copy the selected reviewers back.

The integration removes these steps: journals are set up in Prophy when manuscripts arrive, editors log in to Prophy with one click from your system and get access to the right manuscripts, and the reviewers they select come back to your system automatically.

Key concepts

  • Folder. A group of manuscripts in Prophy, usually one per journal or grant panel. You set it with the folder field when you upload a manuscript.
  • Team. The people who have access to a folder. Editors who log in from your system are added to the team of the folder automatically.
  • Referee Finder. The Prophy interface where editors see the reviewer candidates for a manuscript, refine the search and mark the reviewers they choose.
  • Authors group. A list of experts you upload to Prophy, such as your reviewer database or editorial board. It can be linked to folders, so that Prophy searches only among these experts or highlights and boosts them among all candidates.
