Prophy for AI agents

Overview

Prophy has an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT and other AI agents can work with Prophy for you. The agent can search articles, authors, grants and research concepts, open your folders and proposals, add a proposal, and find referees for it without conflicts of interest, in the same way you do it in the Prophy app.

The agent acts as you: it sees only what you can see in Prophy, inside one organization that you choose when you connect.

Connect

Claude (web, desktop and mobile)

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Find Prophy.ai in the connectors directory and click Connect. If you do not see the directory, click Add custom connector and paste the server URL: http://prophy.eismea.eu/api/mcp/
  3. Log in to Prophy, choose your organization and click Allow.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins.
  2. Find Prophy.ai in the apps directory and click Connect. If you do not see Prophy.ai there, turn on Developer mode in Advanced settings, click Add → Add custom MCP server, fill the Name field and paste the server URL into Connection: http://prophy.eismea.eu/api/mcp/
  3. Log in to Prophy, choose your organization and click Allow.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http prophy http://prophy.eismea.eu/api/mcp/

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and log in to Prophy.

Other MCP clients

Use the server URL http://prophy.eismea.eu/api/mcp/ with the Streamable HTTP transport. You log in to Prophy from the client with OAuth 2.1 (authorization code with PKCE, client ID metadata documents), so you do not copy a token by hand.

Access

  • You need a Prophy account in an organization with the MCP access permission. Ask your Prophy account manager to turn it on.
  • We give each connection its own token for one organization. We accept the token for 90 days. After that, log in to Prophy again from your client.
  • You can see and revoke your tokens in the MCP tokens section of your profile. When you revoke a token, it's disabled with no delay for any subsequent requests.
  • For some actions, your organization needs a permission, see below. Without the permission, the agent does not see the action.

What the agent can do

Search

The agent can search articles, authors, research concepts and grants with the same query language and filters as the search pages in Prophy. To filter by a journal, an affiliation or a funder, the agent first finds its id by name. To search grants and to find funders, your organization needs the Advanced search permission.

Open an article, an author or a grant

The agent sees the same data that you see on the article, author profile and grant pages in Prophy.

Work with your proposals

The agent can list your folders and the proposals in them, open a proposal, and add a new proposal to a folder where you can edit. We then match the authors of the new proposal to author profiles and find its concepts, the same as for a proposal that you upload in the app. Adding a proposal is the only change the agent can make in Prophy. The agent cannot edit or delete anything.

Find referees

The agent can run the referee finder for a proposal or a published article. The agent gets the candidates with their metrics, relevant articles and conflicts of interest with the authors. The referees that you already marked come first. The agent can use your authors groups (editorial boards, reviewer pools) in the settings, the same as you do in the app.

Your organization needs the Referee finder permission. We count one unit of the referee finder quota for the first run on a document, the same as in the app. We do not count later runs on the same document.

Example requests

  • Find 10 referees for proposal "Graphene membranes for water filtering" in folder "Reviews 2026", without conflicts of interest with its authors.
  • Who are the most cited authors on perovskite solar cells in Norway since 2020?
  • Which grants on dark matter were active in 2024, and which funders paid for them?
  • Add this abstract as a proposal in folder "Reviews 2026" and suggest referees for it.

Limits

  • Each user can make 60 tool calls per minute.
  • Each user can make 3000 tool calls per 24 hours.
  • We return at most 60,000 characters in one tool result. If the result is bigger, we return an error, and in the error we tell the agent how to ask for less.

Your data

  • We get only what the agent sends to a tool: the tool name and its arguments. We do not see your conversation with the agent.
  • We keep a log of tool calls (tool, arguments, time, size of the result). We use it for the limits above and to make the tools better. We do not keep the text of your proposals (title, abstract, keywords, authors) in this log.
  • When a task is done, the agent can send the Prophy team a short note about the task and the tools. The Prophy team reads these notes.
  • See our Privacy Policy for the rest.
